In 2011 nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States (8.3% of the population) have diabetes, from those 7 million people remain undiagnosed. Another 79 million people are estimated to have pre-diabetes.
The National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse estimates that diabetes costs $132 billion in the United States alone every year.

In this print I appropriate the iconography and composition of the Botticelli's painting "The Birth of Venus", to which I made some adaptations with images that refer to contemporary issues such as environmental pollution, exploitation of natural resources, use and abuse of power as well the high cost of the wars prompted by our "love" of oil in the "birth" of the twenty-first century.

Años de Miedo / Years of Fear
This Print Portfolio is an homage to the victims of war, based on my memories and the collective historical memory of my country (Nicaragua) in the decades of the 70's and 80's. But, at the same time, this does not mean that it is limited geographically, because it is the reality in many countries at present.
This portfolio is presented as a manner of reflection about war and its effects and how these memories and fears affect our lives not only physically but also in psychological terms.
Años de Miedo is my first Print Portfolio Project and consist of 25 linocut prints printed on HW Rives paper, 175grms. Original limited edition of 25, cut and printed by Carlos Barberena at la Calaca Press. 2008-2009.

Calaca Jugando de Poeta.
“Calaca jugando de Poeta”. (Death Playing the Poet) I created this to juxtapose poetry with death. Poetry is a reflection of life, so here, I have pictured Death, in the moment of a frustrated attempt to write poetry, in an attempt to seduce the women into the realm of death. On one side of Death, there is the apple , a symbol of sensuality, temptation and ageing, and the other, the hourglass, a symbol of the passage of time.
